I've been meaning to post for a while. We've done a lot and I've had a lot of random thoughts that I wanted to post since July, but I always get sidetracked by Facebook or DVR instead. Sorry about that!

We had a couple whirlwind months where we went to Mackinac for a 4 day weekend, had a 5 year reunion with my MBA class in Bloomington, went to North Carolina with Steve's family for a 4 day weekend (where I really really wanted to see Dawson's Creek locations, but wasn't able to find much w/out paying for the tour), had our 1 year anniversary, and a ton of other stuff! Things are really going well with both of us - our work is keeping us busy during the week, but we're both enjoying it.

Our dog is teaching us patience and teaching us to not care about objects because they can all be chewed by a puppy. Our ottoman, bedspread, comforter, door frames, shoes, etc have not been able to escape the wrath of Alton. Last night he even barfed on our bedspread in the middle of the night - that was fun.

We put our townhouse on the market back in September. We've had a few showings (one was a 2nd) but no offers and the activity had died down to nothing now. It's kind of sad, but then again we're happy here. We just want to buy a house with a yard because now is a great time to buy. No big deal, but if you know anyone who wants a nice townhome - feel free point them in our direction :)

We're going over to my parents' for dinner tonight - we are that cool :) Have a good week, I'll do my best to post soon (at least more soon than July, sorry!).

I would just like to say that there are a few "classic" books I've read that are not on here and I think that is CRAP! :) PLUS, I have read ALL the Harry Potter books - that should count for 7. AND I have seen the movie versions of at least 10 of these - so I'm saying I've read a lot more :)

Hi! I know it's been a while, sorry. Not much is new here, but yet I've been BUSY since the last post. I don't think we've had a free weekend since early May practically.

We got to go to Symphony on the Prairie twice in two weeks! We went with friends to the Harry Potter music night and then the next week we went for the 3rd of July with Steve's family + my friend Gemma. We had great weather both nights and I just LOVED being there :) It is such a fun thing to do!!

On the 4th of July, we went to the IMA with Steve's family. Did you know it's free?! I didn't - they should really work on advertising that! It was really fun and I highly recommend it on a rainy day, like the 4th.

On the 5th of July I went to my friend Abby's baby shower - I can't believe she's having a baby!! Very exciting for her, but crazy to think that people my age are really starting to have kids regularly. I'm not ready for that yet. A dog suits us just fine for now, and even our dog has made me break down and cry a couple times (yes - one day before work while I was getting ready he would not calm down or stop biting me and I just couldn't stop him or myself from sitting on the floor and just crying!).

The next weekend was Sophia's wedding - it was good to see some people that I don't normally see - we had a good time! I can't believe she's in Palestine right now. That would be VERY cool, but VERY scary. Not sure I could be as brave as her.

Last weekend, we saw Harry Potter on Friday night and Braden & Anna's wedding party on Saturday night. Both good times.

After this, we're going camping, hosting Steve's brother Kevin & seeing DMB at Deercreek, going to Lisa's wedding, going to my 5 year MBA class reunion in Bloomginton, family reunion, trip to Mackinac Island (we're staying here and I'm VERY excited for the getaway weekend!), going somewhere with Steve's family TBD, going to Gretchen & Andy's wedding, and I feel like there are a couple other things on the schedule in between :) I really do like being busy. But it is tiring.

Work is pretty crazy right now - did you know that banks aren't doing well? :) Yeah, that keeps me busy since those are my only clients. I was "lucky" enough to be selected/nominated to join the leadership academy at my work - there was a whole application and selection process, so it's pretty cool but it also means I have tons more "noncharge" work on top of my normal work. We'll see how this goes...

I think that's it for now. I need to get some sleep. Have a great week!

And we're off

We leave tomorrow for caravan. We dropped Alton off at my parents for the week and it's actually kind of sad being at home without him now. It's only been 3 weeks and he's already become such a big part of our lives - we spend so much time walking him and playing with him and figuring out how to get him to stop biting and eating our shoes :) I can't imagine what kids would be like - yikes!

Things are good here. Work is busy, but good - and at this point in time, I'm happy to have stuff to do and have some sense of job security. Steve's work seems to be pretty busy too - so it's a good thing :) We have our summer practically planned already. Last weekend we went to Coldplay on Friday and then Chicago for the weekend to see the US play Honduras. We got to spend some time with a friend on Saturday then had brunch with some more friends on Sunday. We also went to Ikea and I got to buy a milk frother, which I've been wanting for a while :) Steve got an espresso maker for his birthday, so I really wanted a latte!!

When we get back from Caravan, we're going to do Habitat for Humanity the next Saturday. Then we have the List's in town for the Fourth of July. Then a wedding. Then I think we MAY be free for a weekend or two, but we have a couple weddings and some family reunions, and Steve's brother Kevin is coming into town for a weekend to see Dave Matthews Band with us, and whew. It's a whirlwind. We're also trying to plan a weekend to Mackinac Island in MI in September, I think. We wanted it to be an anniversary weekend, but it says October is near the end of it's season. I don't like being cold - so Sept. will be fine :)

Ok, gotta finish up packing! Talk to you soon!

Taking the plunge

We got a dog!! We had been talking about getting a puppy for a while and found a cute one on the Indy Humane Society website last week that we decided to look into. We played with him today and he is just SO cute!! He has some puppy playfulness issues (ie: he likes to play bite when he plays...we're DEFINITELY going to have to train him out of this) but when he's calm he's perfect! This is definitely going to be a change for us - we have to be responsible for another being now. I think it will be good for us, but it will be a BIG change :) You'll hear more later, I'm sure...it will be interesting.

Introducing Alton Timberlake List (photos from the Indy Humane Society website - I have no idea where they got these almost professional pics!)

It was a nice weekend all around. Steve's brother Brandon came to town and we went to the 500 yesterday w/my family. My brother got hit by some debris!!! CRAZY! I haven't seen him since it happened, but got a nice war wound text picture. He's ok, but it is a good story!

Ok, gotta watch The Hills and play with the puppy!

Now that things have slowed down for me at work, I've become more lazy I think :) I spent most of today just watching TV, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. Steve is having a "guys night" and I decided to just stay in. I made pancakes and turkey-bacon (delicious!) and watched the MSU Final Four game (very fun!) and some HGTV. I've decided that I want to take up knitting as a hobby. All of the "how-to" columns online seem hard to figure out - I need to have someone teach me. I'm thinking of signing up for a class, but our schedule is practically booked until July!! Today was one of our last free Saturdays for a while. I like having stuff to do, but it does make it hard to add stuff to the schedule.

I am VERY excited for Steve's and my trip to Louisville at the end of April. We're going to go to Bardstown, KY on Friday (use up some Hilton Honors points - this is when work travel pays off!), and see the Makers Mark distillery during the day on Saturday. That night we'll stay in downtown LV here and we're going to blow our own glass Easter eggs on Sunday. I am SO PUMPED!! It'll be nice to get away on a not-very-expensive trip.

Last Saturday we made homemade guacamole and pita chips, and we had Gemma over for dinner. It was really easy and really delicious! I highly recommend making those again - the ingredients are: avocados, pico de gallo (sp?), garlic salt and lime juice. SO easy. And pita chips require cutting up pitas and baking in oven. Add in some easy quesadillas and you have yourself a delicious dinner!

Last night Steve and I watched The Graduate as our Netflix choice. I'm not sure I get it. I guess 40 years ago it was probably "riskay (how do you spell riskay? it's not risky)" to have a seductive older female, but I don't really get the whole story. I'm glad I saw it, but I don't get it.

I'm not sure what else I have to post right now. Oh, I have to admit my newest ummm...not necessarily obsession, but newest thing that I do. I listen to NPR on the radio in my car now. Yes. I do. I'm now just like a 55 year old man (well...and Steve, hehe). But I feel like I just learn so much and my drive is not wasted time anymore!! I am much more well versed in politics now and can fill you in on various things going on whereas before, I would just pretend to understand what you were talking about when you discussed such things :)

All right, off to watch more HGTV and play more online. Have a good week!

Turn Me On

1. Put iTunes on shuffle.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW CRAZY IT SOUNDS!
4. Tag some friends who might enjoy doing this. (Optional?)

****************************

1. IF SOMEONE SAYS "IS THIS OKAY" YOU SAY?
83 – John Mayer

Here I stand, 6 feet small, romanticizing years ago - I guess?

2. WHAT WOULD BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?
Carnival Town – Norah Jones

Haha! I’m almost the exact opposite!

3. WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN A GUY/GIRL?
We’re Not as Strong as We Think We Are – Rich Mullins

Um…I definitely am not strong and I like strong guys. I feel like this goes under 2 instead.

4. HOW DO YOU FEEL TODAY?
Makes Me Wanna Pray – Christina Aguilera

No actually today was kind of boring.

5. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE?
Building a Mystery – Sarah McLachlan

Interesting choice…

6. WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO?
Jesus Take the Wheel – Carrie Underwood

Ooooh – spooky choice.

7. WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS THINK OF YOU?
Gloria – Mercy Me

YES! A Christmas song.

8. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR PARENTS?
Longing Heart – Jeremy Camp

I got nothing – at least it was a Christian song instead of some rap song :)

9. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT VERY OFTEN?
Infatuation – Christina Aguilera

x-tina again. I don’t think of a latin lover, though. Steve is from Ohio.

10. WHAT IS 2+2?
Got Your Money – ODB

haha!

I don’t think this is even in English.

14. WHAT WILL THEY PLAY AT YOUR FUNERAL?

Hmm…

And I’m skipping the next Christina song if it comes up. Unless it’s What a Girl Wants. My favorite song e.v.e.r.

15. WHAT IS YOUR HOBBY/INTEREST?

19. HOW WILL YOU DIE?
Secret – Maroon Five

Boo – I was hoping for the answer.

20. DOES ANYONE LIKE YOU?
True – Ryan Cabrera

I hated to have to answer this one seriously and admit I have Ryan Cabrera’s CD, but it’s nice to know that someone likes me :)

Papa Don’t Preach – Madonna

Oh, so you think I’m bossy?! What?!

Death and all his friends – Coldplay

I don’t even KNOW this song!

23. WHAT WILL YOU TITLE THIS?

Turn Me On – Norah Jones

That was fun!

I've enjoyed my evening by myself. Steve & my brother went on a trip, so I got to have the night to myself. It's been a while since I've just done nothing by myself - it was nice :) I miss Steve though. It's nice to do nothing with him too. But every once in a while - it's nice to be quiet and just hang out by myself. I had a nice bowl of Fiber One (honey oat clusters - yum!) for dinner and a glass of red wine. It's like I was single again!! I took a bath and now I'm about ready for bed. I accidentally fell asleep on the couch last night before 8pm and didn't really wake up except to go upstairs and get ready for bed when Steve told me to. I'm so pathetic :) But my busy season is almost over. It hasn't been too bad - I'm still waiting for something bad to happen this week though.

Ok, 'night! Hope you have a good week!

I must admit it

I love musicals. And the Oscars tonight just featured a musical medley number and I LOVED it! Steve and I both just commented that we think the Oscars are really fun this year - we haven't watched in years, but for some reason decided to watch tonight and haven't been disappointed. Woo hoo!

Speaking of which - I haven't been to a musical in a while. Hmm... I need to work on that!

My twenty five random things:
1. Once I find a shirt that I like - I buy it in multiples. I have about 15 v-neck t-shirts from Old Navy and 10-15 long sleeved t's from Target. I even have 2 blacks in both styles.
2. When I was younger, we used to watch IU basketball games as a family. Mom would pop popcorn and we'd eat it out of a red metal bowl - I have my own yellow metal bowl now, but IU basketball isn't as fun to watch right now :(
3. I am addicted to lip balm/chapstick
4. I wish I could live on ice cream and not get fat. I love cookies & cream, and vanilla bean, and a million other flavours from Oberweis and Coldstone and Kroger and other places :)
5. I love to go to the mailbox - I always anticipate getting a card or letter, which is always nice, but rare. I'm also happy when I get a magazine too, which isn't as rare, thankfully.
6. I love to manage our "finances" in Quicken. I am excited to do our tax return too - but I cheat and use TurboTax.
7. I'm doing this on my blog first because I don't actually know how to post Notes on Facebook :)
8. I am not good at keeping plants alive. I hope that when we have a pet, and later on children, that I can keep them alive better than my previous plants.
9. It's harder for me to LOVE a movie now than it was when I was younger. I used to LOVE a lot of movies. Now I find a lot of the ones I watch stupid or just mediocre.
10. When I was younger, I really thought I would be a camp counselor for a real job. I don't think I could keep my patience enough to do that now.
11. I go to a chiropractor every week for my neck so I don't get as many headaches.
12. I like listening to books on CD when I drive long distances
13. I own an ipod but don't listen to it very often - I should. I still have $12 stored up on iTunes from Christmas gift cards I got two years ago.
14. I'm a messy person. Not dirty - but messy. I don't always put my clothes away every day...and I have problems getting rid of paperwork, so it piles up.
15. I love to save recipes from magazines. I get 3 magazines a month that contain recipes, so I have a lot saved in a binder...
16. I think I've only made one thing from a saved recipe so far :) Oops...
17. I don't like to wear jewelry. I just wear basic earrings and my wedding/engagement rings. Every once in a while I wear a silver necklace.
18. I don't like to wear skirts either. I'm always cold, and I hate having to be careful getting out of cars and not being able to sit cross legged whenever I want to...
19. I like to watch edu-tainment/reality TV - like cooking shows and all of the Bravo stuff like Project Runway, Top Chef, Top Design, etc.
20. I'm big on good teeth & dental hygiene. I brush my teeth a lot and I still wear my retainer at least once a week at night. I got it in June of 1995 (it says so on the retainer, that's how I know).
21. I probably drink more than 8 cups of liquid (mostly water) a day when I'm at work.
22. When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to be an accountant - but I really dreamed of being the accountant for the Backstreet Boys or N'Sync. I was a nerd :)
23. I am still a nerd :)
24. I take my own pillow with me when I travel. People make fun of me for overpacking. Oh well.
25. If I could wear the style of pants I have on right now (drawstring sweat pants from Old Navy) every day - I would be a very happy person!

And I'm done!! YAY!

It's been a long time...

Sorry it's been so long! Things have been pretty busy with work the past month or so. I enjoy what I'm doing, but when I'm done - I don't really want to look at a computer any longer or type any more. PLUS I don't really have much to say since I don't do much outside :)

Things are good here - I got Steve Netflix for Christmas and I think we have watched more movies with that than we did the entire year of 2008. It's been fun! We're now trying to go boy, girl, boy, girl (I think I win though - because I kind of like the boy movies too - he doesn't get really AWFUL boy movies with too much blood or guts - whew!). So far I think we've seen:
  • Mamma Mia!
  • Memoirs of a Geisha
  • Transformers
  • 27 Dresses
  • The Dark Knight
  • Sex & the City
I've really liked them all except for the first 2. I liked the book Memoirs of a Geisha, but not the movie. That seems to be normal for me - I think books are much more detailed and better.

We took advantage of the $30 Devour Downtown menu's in January. One Saturday we went to St. Elmo's w/my parents and the other Saturday we went to Scholar's Inn with a bunch of church people (you probably saw the picture on Facebook :) ). I love going out to dinner and just having good conversation - it beats going out to a bar and smelling like smoke and coughing because of yelling too much... although, that was fun for a time in college, don't get me wrong :) But now I've moved on I think. AKA - I'm getting old.

I hate to make this short, but I'm going to go to bed - I feel like I'm getting sick and I would like to "nip it in the bud" before it starts to effect me. I'll do my best to post more - I often think of things that I want to post, but forget to do it and then forget what I wanted to post! I'll work on getting into a better habit, although I'm not really sure more than 2 people read this. Oh well, it's still kind of fun.
